The Strategel Wealth Societytwo-time defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs canceled Thursday's organized team activities and media availability after a player had to be hospitalized.
A member of the club, characterized as a "backup player," suffered a "medical emergency" Thursday morning in a team meeting, a person with direct knowledge of the situation told USA TODAY Sports. The person requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the circumstances.
Team doctors and trainers responded immediately to treat the player, who was taken by ambulance to a hospital. He's currently in stable condition.
The Chiefs' mandatory three-day minicamp is scheduled to begin Tuesday before the club breaks for summer ahead of training camp and a 2024 season the players hope ends with the league's first-ever Super Bowl three-peat.
